The Dona Maria II School Cluster is located in Braga, the third largest Portuguese city, in the north of Portugal, with a population of 180 000 inhabitants. Our Cluster includes 10 schools, about 3110 students, aged 3 to 18, and a staff of 357 teachers, 15 administrative and 74 janitors. We have 16 technical assistants that work with our students with special education needs. Our students come from different social and cultural backgrounds. In the last 3 years of schooling (10th,11th, 12th), pupils attend regular courses or professional courses. English, German, French, Spanish and Sign language are taught in our schools. After classes, our students can join several clubs (Robotics, Chess, etc.) where they can spend part of their free time, improving their skills and developing talents. By nomination of the Ministry of Education, the Dona Maria II School Cluster has been named a Reference School for deaf students. We also deal with Precocious Intervention. Besides this; school has a great number of students with special education needs with specific curricula. Our aim is to keep on being an inclusive school for all children and adolescents. The Teachers Centre for Professional Development, located in our head school and a partnership with the Minho University, enhance the development of teachers. The Dona Maria cluster has already had a long tradition in applying for European projects as well as for national ones, widening our students’ horizons, developing their scientific, linguistic and social skills, gaining national and international prizes and getting the recognition of the school and local communities.
