The institute has its origins in the early '900s in Bagheria as the Royal Gymnasium "Giosuè Carducci". In1963, after a global school reformation it becomes " Scuola Media unificata”. Today it is called Scuola Secondaria di Primo Grado "Giosuè Carducci". Bagheria has had an extremely intense and chaotic growth in population and consequentely in urbanization. The social - economic context has experienced a downfall in recent years due to unemployment. There are presently 585 students
aged between 10 and 15 in 27 classes and 65 teachers. There are over 30 students with special needs. The building housing the school dates back to 1968 but has been renovated and made accessible with ramps for wheelchairs and a lift. There is a gym and a playground surrounded by green areas shaded by trees, a science lab, a music lab, a computer lab a library and a conference hall. The school has built through the years constructive bounds with associations in order to foster educational success and long life learning for the acquisition of spendable competences and the development of life skills.
